The scene of a motorcycle accident

A Wife and Mother Gets the Care She Needs After a Serious Motorcycle Crash

It was a beautiful evening, and Olive* and her husband, Brad, were enjoying a nighttime motorcycle ride. Nothing seemed unusual as they approached a stopped truck.

Everything changed when the truck driver pulled into the road directly in front of the couple—leaving them no room to stop or avoid the collision. Although the motorcycle’s headlight was on, the driver claimed he thought it was from his own truck.

In an instant, Olive faced a long, difficult road to recovery—both physically and emotionally.

Olive Wakes Up to a Very Different World

“I didn’t remember anything,” said Olive after the crash. “I didn’t know why I was in the hospital. I just thought, ‘Okay, what am I doing here, and where is Brad?”

Brad didn’t make it. He had taken the brunt of the impact in the crash, shielding Olive from even more catastrophic injuries that easily could have been fatal for her as well.

“He saved my life,” said Olive. “People say that they would give their life for somebody. He definitely did. He did that for me.”

While Olive survived, her recovery process wasn’t simple. Her injuries included a fractured skull, traumatic brain injury, and a massive brain bleed. Doctors were extremely concerned about her fall risk and her long-term prognosis.

“In the hospital, I had to learn to walk again,” said Olive. “I had to have a walker and I had to wear a helmet when I walked.”

More than anything else, though, Olive was concerned for her and Brad’s young daughter, and how she would get the care she needed from her only surviving parent.

“I was worried about, honestly, was I going to be able to give my little girl a bath again?”

Olive Seeks Legal Help and Support

Like many people who experience sudden, severe injuries, Olive didn’t give much thought about her legal options until after she was out of the hospital. Her health and safety were her primary concerns.

But she eventually realized she needed help, and about a week or so after being discharged, decided to contact the Karl Truman Law Office after seeing our commercials on TV.

We knew right away that Olive was someone we wanted to fight for. Given that motorcycle accident victims often face unique legal challenges, and it had already been a few weeks since the accident, it was critically important for the investigation to begin as soon as possible. We went out to visit her as soon as possible.

“[Karl] actually offered to come out to my house,” said Olive. “He and his wife brought us the most beautiful bouquet of flowers.”

Karl Truman Goes Above and Beyond for Olive’s Family

Personal injury cases are time-consuming, frustrating, and stressful processes, especially if you’re working through a difficult recovery or grieving the loss of a loved one. Olive was experiencing both.

At Karl Truman Law Office, we understand that our clients need more than a legal expert or someone who can get them a big paycheck. They need a team who will take care of them at every step of the process, alleviating their anxiety and giving them the peace of mind they need to concentrate on their physical and emotional wellbeing.

“[Karl] seemed like a neighbor; he seemed like a friend,” said Olive. “He answered all of our questions, gave us information, and he was so pleasant. … Any court appointment that we had, he was there before I was, on time and prepared.”

We were honored to represent Olive and handle her personal injury and wrongful death case on her behalf. While nothing could ever make up for the loss of Brad, the settlements allowed Olive to get back on her feet and support her family, including her daughter with Brad.

“I would absolutely recommend him, and I do,” said Olive. “When anybody asks me or jokes that I should call the Colonel, I tell them that I did!”
