Man Dies after Adopted Rottweiler Attacks Him

November 20, 2015

In Tennessee, a 57-year-old man was killed in a dog attack by a Rottweiler he had adopted just hours earlier that day, according to the Jackson Sun. The man had adopted the 5-year-old dog from the county pound, whose employees told the Jackson Sun that the dog had not shown any signs of aggression nor had it bitten or attacked any workers while at the pound for the 5 days before it was adopted. The dog was a stray that was picked up by a city employee, according to the Jackson Sun. The article goes on to say that the dog was later shot after it ran out of the house. The dog will be autopsied, which will reveal if it had rabies or any other illness that may have made it lash out. It remains to be seen if any responsibility will be assigned to the county pound for the attack.

Death is a tragic, irreparable consequence of dog bites and dog attacks across the country. Other injuries sustained when these incidents occur commonly include:

  • Scarring and disfigurement
  • Broken bones
  • Spinal cord injury

Dog bites can be severe and life-altering.
